I like my mechanic but his estimates are always just a bit under the final bill. If he says $200, it’s $225. If he says $450, it’s going to be $500.

There’s always a good reason (“sorry, forgot we had to flush the blah blah”) and I don’t think it’s deliberate at all. But even after all these years, there’s always a little let down when they give me the bill.

I think it’s better to work it the other way. Under promising and over delivering always feels better to the client.
