made an appointment to speak with someone I’m thinking of hiring.

I’m looking for help in the set up and promotion of some online courses and don’t want to figure it all out by myself.

I left a voice message for Dave who I learned about through a friend.

He responded quickly with an email and a link to schedule time on his calendar. That’s convenient. The only problem is that his first opening is 10 days away.

Uh oh. In 10 days I could easily have moved on to the next thing and lost interest.

In my experience, when somebody reaches out and is thinking of hiring you, you’re more than half the way home. The faster you can connect, the more likely they are to move forward.
