  • So I’m doing a couple of “must dos” for today and going back home.

When I was an employee, this is the way I always handled sick days. But when I went off on my own, I got the idea (I don’t know where) that I was supposed to “soldier on,” no matter what.

Now I know that if I don’t take care of myself, I won’t be of much use to anyone!

  • but have never done work for. She called because she needed some copywriting done.

She’s brought me two clients over the years and I had lunch with her once or twice, the most recent being at least five years ago. She’s definitely moved to the outer reaches of “people I know” and even unsubscribed from my newsletter at some point.

But she’s on my “keep in touch” list, so I send her a check-in email three times a year. She’s also received a birthday card from me for the last two years and most recently, a holiday card.

    And today she hired me.

Just stirring the pot over here…. (Are you?!)

  • for a form I’ve developed that I mentioned in my newsletter and offered to readers.

I could have dropped them all into one email and bcc’d the group, but instead I just answered them one by one. A little more work, but a chance to make a personal connection!

  • who kept listing “my professor” as the source of how they found out about me. I finally emailed one of them and asked who their professor was so I could thank him/her. So I did.

Got an email back from the mystery professor a few hours later. Turns out it was a guy I knew from my days in cable television who continued to receive my newsletter over the years and who’s now a college professor.

You never know from which mouth the word of mouth will come from!
