received an interesting LinkedIn message.

It came from a financial planner – a total stranger – who wanted to connect because apparently, we are both alumni of the same college.

You know, the place I graduated from 40 years ago.

Oh, and by the way, he let me know he would also be happy to help with my “financial needs, wants, and wishes.”

Last week, I received an email from another financial planner, someone I met a couple of times in a professional organization we were both once members of.

He was responding to a message I sent to him … get ready … five years ago.

I can’t imagine what he may want.

Men (it’s always men), this is embarrassing for both of us. And it’s no way to build a business.

If the one and only time I hear from you is when you want me to buy something, I’m not listening.

A better approach: Send me a personal email or come have a cup of coffee.

Then, if we are still in touch in 2027 or so, I’d be happy to talk about whatever it is you’re selling.
