received an odd compliment.


I got a call out of the blue from someone who was planning an upcoming event.

As soon as we began talking he said, “We’re looking for speakers but you’re probably out of our league because I went to your web site and you look pretty good.”

At that point, my only possible answer was something along the lines of, “you’re probably right.” It was either that or confess my lack of skill and agree to attend.

Selling doesn’t come naturally to many of us and I understand the concern with overpromising.

That said, if you project a sense of unworthiness, few people will go out of their way to correct you.
